“When should I come to Djerba?” is the question we are asked most often. And after five years of welcoming families at Ethic Village Djerba, our answer is clear: May and June. These are not our most booked months — they are the months our guests return from smiling, saying they discovered the island.
Here is why.
The climate — the Mediterranean sweet spot
| Day | Night | Sea | Sunny days | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| May | 22-28 °C | 14-18 °C | 19-22 °C | 28-30 |
| June | 26-32 °C | 18-22 °C | 22-25 °C | 29-30 |
| July | 30-35 °C | 22-26 °C | 26-27 °C | 31 |
| August | 32-38 °C | 24-28 °C | 27-28 °C | 31 |
The trade-off is clear: in May-June, it is warm without being stifling. You sleep with the windows open, eat on the terrace without always seeking shade, walk outside in the late afternoon without sweating heavily. The sea is already warm enough for swimmers, the light is soft, the sky clear on most days.
Beaches, given back to their residents
In July and August at Djerba, Sidi Yati is crowded. Rows of umbrellas line up, families cluster together, beach operators multiply paid sections. The sand remains fine and white, but privacy has gone.
In May-June, everything changes. Arrive at 9 AM, you have your stretch of beach. At 1 PM, the few people present eat lunch under their own umbrella ten metres further. At 5 PM, the beach empties again and you swim in a calm sea as the sun sets on the horizon.

Sidi Yati is a 6-minute drive from our residence — one of the reasons our guests visit it several mornings in a row in May-June. In summer, they go much less often.
Prices — May is the best price, June the best balance
At Djerba, the pricing calendar is divided into three seasons. May is mid-season; June, July, August and September are entirely high season.
- May (mid-season): between €150 and €190 per night depending on the villa — the most affordable
- June to September (high season): between €180 and €310 per night depending on the villa — identical rates throughout the summer
For a one-week stay, May costs about €400 less than the same week in high season, for a climate that remains excellent. That is the difference between good value and a noticeably more affordable tariff.
June is priced the same as July and August, yet offers a very different setting: you access the same villas, the same services, the same beach, but without the queues and without the stifling midsummer heat. Same price, much more relaxed setting.
For May 2026, we offer a €15 discount per night on stays of 3 to 7 nights with the code MAI2026. Valid until May 31 included.
Long days
At Djerba, by late June, the sun sets around 8:05 PM. Dinners on the terrace are unhurried, late-afternoon swims last an hour, children can play outside until 8 PM without being drained by the heat. This stretching of time is something you don’t find in winter (sunset at 5:30 PM) nor in summer (sunset around 8:10 PM but already too hot to enjoy).
A relaxed society
There is a particular rhythm in Djerba in May-June that few visitors notice but that makes a real difference. Ramadan ended in March, Eid al-Fitr has passed, local teams are in their normal routine — rested and available. The bustle of the tourist season has not yet started — artisans, shopkeepers, restaurant owners have time to chat, recommend, advise.
In July and August, everyone is overwhelmed. In winter, many addresses are closed. In May-June, you arrive on an island fully active yet unhurried.
Nature still green
Djerba is dry. In summer, the landscape turns beige-gold. Private watered gardens keep their glow, but roadsides and wadis become dusty. In May-June, the post-spring greenery is still there. Bougainvilleas are in bloom, fig trees have glossy leaves, olive groves are dense.
This is particularly visible in Erriadh, the historic village 15 minutes from the residence, where the white and blue alleys are crossed by blooming bougainvilleas. In July it remains beautiful, but less colourful.
