November and all winter for two: half board on us

Winter sun in February with the family? Djerba, in a private villa

Villa Diamant at Ethic Village Djerba under a clear winter sky, with a palm tree and play frame: winter sun for families

Looking for winter sun in February with young children, without a long-haul flight? Djerba is about three and a half hours direct from Manchester and only one hour ahead of the UK, and February brings afternoons around 18°C, nights around 11°C and plenty of light. Sun, yes. Summer in winter, no: the sea stays cool, and we’d rather tell you before you book. What February gives you in return is an island without crowds and a villa of your own, where the children spend the day outdoors and no one can see in.

Ethic Village Djerba is a family residence of 4 private villas in Tezdaine, a sought-after part of Midoun (the name means “the palm trees” in Berber). Here is what February looks like with us for a family, the good and the not-so-good.

Winter sun in February: Djerba’s climate, without the gloss

Over the last ten years, February in Djerba has averaged 18°C at the warmest point of the day and 11°C at night, according to the ERA5 climate reanalysis published by Open-Meteo (2015-2024). The sea sits at around 15°C (seatemperature.info readings over ten years). In practice: lunch outside, a jumper at sunset, and the odd windy or rainy day.

For your children, that means whole days outdoors, in the garden or on the beach building and collecting shells, but for most of them no swimming in the sea. If a warm sea is a must, you’ll need to go further afield, which usually means a longer flight and a bigger budget. Djerba offers something else: sun close to home, and peace and quiet.

As for pools, only one of our villas is heated: Villa Diamant, by heat pump, as an extra (€20 a day). The pools in the other three villas are unheated. The bravest jump in anyway; everyone else admires them from the terrace.

Why a private villa rather than a hotel with young children

With toddlers, a February hotel break often means a buffet at set times, whispering in the corridor during naps and a shared pool. In a villa at Ethic Village Djerba, your family lives at its own pace:

  • a pool that isn’t overlooked, behind perimeter walls 4 to 8 metres high, lined with privacy screens;
  • single-storey villas, so no stairs to keep an eye on;
  • a children’s garden in every villa, with a sandpit and a play-area slide;
  • meals through the serving hatch: our cook, a local chef, prepares them in the residence kitchen, and they reach your villa without anyone stepping inside. Half board is extra (€12 a day per adult, children at 50%, babies not counted);
  • included in your stay: standard breakfast, the welcome meal, cleaning on arrival and departure, Wi-Fi and covered parking with CCTV.

A caretaker lives with his family at the heart of the residence. As anywhere, keeping an eye on the children around the pools is the parents’ job.

Every villa has prayer mats, and the Qibla direction is marked in every room. The residence is entirely alcohol-free and welcomes families and married couples; unmarried couples and mixed groups are not accepted.

Which villa for your family?

  • Villa Jade — 2 bedrooms, 4 guests (+2): L-shaped pool, swings in the garden. The most affordable.
  • Villa Opale — 2 bedrooms, 5 guests (+2): beach-entry pool and a swing hanging over the water. Connecting door to Jade.
  • Villa Saphir — 3 bedrooms, 6 guests (+2): saltwater lap pool, waterfall, paddling pool. Connecting door to Diamant.
  • Villa Diamant — 4 bedrooms, 8 guests (+2): the only heated pool, with a jacuzzi and a paddling pool. For a large family, or two families together with Saphir.

What February in Djerba costs

February is low season with us. Villa Jade starts at €100 a night for stays of a week or more, and the nightly rate drops again from 21 nights: see our long stay in Djerba. If you’re two parents travelling with a baby, the winter offer applies to you: half board free for two, explained in Djerba in February for two. Young children are very welcome.

As for flights, a direct return from Manchester outside the UK school holidays was selling at between €140 and €210 per adult when we last checked, in summer 2026. February half-term usually pushes fares up, so book early; we don’t know the exact fares for that week, and we’d rather not guess. Our guide to direct flights to Djerba from the UK will help you plan. Personally, I fly Nouvelair several times a month and recommend it; I strongly advise against Tunisair. Once there, a meal in a simple local restaurant costs €5 to €12 per person.

Ramadan 2027 falls in February

Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February and end around 9 March; the exact dates depend on the sighting of the crescent moon. This year, February half-term falls within it. For those who observe it, this month is not a hardship but a school of patience and self-restraint, shared with the traditions that came before:

“O you who have believed, fasting has been prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become righteous.”

— Qur’an, Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:183

If you’re fasting, the villa gives you the calm this month calls for: during Ramadan, dinner is served at iftar time and delivered through the serving hatch. Troujette Mosque is a 5 min walk away, and Khalid Ibn Al Walid Mosque 10 min.

If you’re not fasting, simply know that the island runs at a different pace: some cafés and restaurants close during the day or change their hours, and the evenings come alive after the fast is broken. Plan your lunches accordingly; the residence kitchen can take care of them.

Getting here and getting around

From Manchester, easyJet flies direct to Djerba throughout the winter season, every Saturday and, in many weeks, on Tuesdays too, in about 3 hours 35 minutes. From London Luton, the route runs in windows across the winter, and no February dates were on sale when we last checked: check yours before you plan around it. Djerba-Zarzis airport is a 39 min drive from the residence. Our private transfer, as an extra, costs €10 per adult per trip (minimum €20 per trip, €5 per child), with free cancellation up to 7 days before. A small hire car, delivered to your villa, costs €30 a day in low season; Sidi Yati beach is a 9 min drive away. Before you travel, the UK government’s foreign travel advice for Tunisia remains the reference. Everything else is explained in how to get to Djerba.
