Djerba Through the Four Seasons

Spring (March–May): the Sweet Spot

Spring is widely considered the best time to visit Djerba. Temperatures range from 13 to 26°C, the sea warms steadily, olive trees and mimosa are in bloom. Crowds are modest — you often have the fine white sand beaches almost to yourselves. Ethic Village Djerba prices are at low-season rates in March (€110–130 per night) and mid-season rates in April and May (€160–190 per night), offering considerable savings compared to summer.

In early March 2027, Ramadan will end and Eid al-Fitr will follow (subject to moon sighting). The atmosphere on the island is warm and special: shared iftar meals, family evenings, a festive calm. For Muslim-friendly families who want to experience this in the sun, our complete guide to Muslim-friendly family holidays in Djerba covers all the practical details. See also official Islamic calendar from the Grand Mosque of Paris.

In May, Eid al-Adha falls depending on the year — around mid-May 2027 (subject to moon sighting). Spending this holiday in a private villa in Djerba is a meaningful experience. Discover the traditions of Eid al-Adha in Tunisia to prepare for the atmosphere.

Summer (June–August): High Season, Sea at Its Best

Summer in Djerba is hot and dry. The sea exceeds 25°C, skies are almost always clear. This is peak season for families with school-age children. Ethic Village Djerba villa prices rise from June (€170–280 per night) and are at their highest in July and August (€190–310 per night, depending on the villa), and availability goes quickly. For July and August, book several months in advance.

For those who find intense heat (32–33°C in July and August) difficult, or who want a more manageable budget, September is an excellent alternative: sea still at 25°C, crowds thinning from mid-month as children return to school.

Autumn (September–November): Djerba’s Best-Kept Secret

September is effectively a continuation of summer: sea at 25°C, generous sunshine, crowds dropping from the back-to-school rush. It’s arguably the best value month of the year. By October, the warmth is remarkable (19–26°C), the golden Mediterranean light transforms the island, and availability is easy. The UK October half-term (late October) draws a handful of British families — booking two or three weeks ahead is plenty.

November marks the start of low season. Ethic Village Djerba prices drop to €110–130 per night. The island is almost tourist-free. For retirees and independent travellers, this is when winter stays begin. Our article Off-Season Djerba: Why Visit in Autumn or Winter sets out all the reasons this period works so well.

Winter (December–February): Mild and Restorative

Djerba’s winter is mild: 11–18°C, with sunshine levels well above those of northern France, Belgium or the United Kingdom. January brings occasional showers, nothing close to a northern European winter. Villa Diamant at Ethic Village Djerba is the only villa in the residence to offer pool heating (heat pump, optional extra), available all year round — a significant advantage for guests who want to swim even in January.

For retirees in particular, a winter stay in Djerba is a genuine long-stay option: calm, long-stay rates available (from €85 per night for Diamant), and a safe, well-serviced setting. See our Long-Stay in Djerba page for all the practicalities.

Timing to Bear in Mind by Profile

July and August if you don’t enjoy intense heat. Temperatures can exceed 33°C, with occasional sirocco days. Spring and autumn are far more comfortable for heat-sensitive travellers — same light, fraction of the crowds.
