Everything you need to know before you go
You have booked your stay in Djerba? Here is our practical guide to preparing your trip, from the suitcase to landing at the airport — the questions our guests most often ask us before arriving at Ethic Village Djerba. On this subject, see the Tunisian Civil Aviation and Airports Authority (OACA).

When to visit Djerba
Djerba is a year-round destination thanks to its mild climate. Each season has its own character:
- Low season (Nov to Mar) — 12 to 20°C, soft light, quiet island. Ideal for long stays and working remotely in the sun. Island-wide prices are noticeably lower.
- Shoulder season (Apr-May, Oct) — 22 to 28°C, sea warming up, sunny days. Our favourite window: see why May-June is the best time for Djerba.
- High season (Jul-Aug; June and September form an in-between season, pricier than the shoulder season) — 30-35°C, sea at 26-28°C. Perfect for holidays built around the pool. Our private pools with no overlooking neighbours truly come into their own when the heat peaks.
On the events side, the Eid celebrations set the rhythm of island life without disrupting tourist stays. For official figures, see Djerba inscribed by UNESCO in 2023.
Documents and formalities
For British, Irish, EU, North American and many other nationalities, no visa is required for tourist stays under 90 days. A passport valid for at least 3 months from your date of entry is enough — the rule most often forgotten at boarding. If minors travel with only one parent, check whether your country requires a parental authorisation form. No international vaccination certificate is required on entry.
Airlines and flights
Djerba-Zarzis (DJE) airport is served direct from the UK with easyJet. Here is the 2026 picture, depending on where you fly from.
From the United Kingdom
easyJet operates direct flights to Djerba from two UK airports:
- London Luton (LTN) — direct, approximately 3h25 to 3h30 of flight.
- Manchester (MAN) — direct, approximately 3h35 to 3h45 of flight.
For the full picture — schedule windows, what to expect on board and tips for booking — see our deep guide: Djerba from the UK: easyJet direct flights. There is currently no direct service from Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Birmingham or Edinburgh.
From Ireland, or no direct from your city
If you are flying from Ireland, or from a UK city without a direct route, two practical options:
- Connect through a European hub (Paris-CDG, Brussels) onto a direct flight to Djerba.
- Fly to Tunis-Carthage (TUN), then take a Tunisair Express domestic flight to Djerba (about 1 hour) or a rental car (around 5 hours by road).
This routing also makes sense on dates when no direct flight operates.
Our article how to get to Djerba details all the options.
Your arrival airport: Djerba-Zarzis (DJE)
Djerba-Zarzis International Airport (IATA: DJE) lies 9 km from Houmt Souk and 25 to 35 minutes by car from our residence in Tezdaine. A small, human-scale airport: luggage usually quick, formalities smooth outside the summer peaks.
For the transfer to your villa: a taxi at arrivals (taxis are metered), a car rental on-site, or a private transfer arranged by Ethic Village Djerba (at extra cost, bookable via the guest portal whose link arrives with your booking confirmation) — the most restful option after a long journey, especially with young children.
What to pack
- Light cotton clothing for summer, plus a light jumper for spring and autumn evenings (nights can feel cool outside July and August).
- Comfortable shoes for the village alleys, sandy tracks, the souks and any excursions you have in mind.
- Swimwear for your private pool. For women who prefer it, a modest swimsuit (burkini or full-cover model) is perfectly suited to our pools with no overlooking neighbours.
And that’s all — everything else, you’ll find it on site, our residence is very well equipped.
Health and access to care
No vaccine is mandatory to enter Tunisia from Europe. On the ground, stick to bottled water. The island has plenty of pharmacies (Midoun, Houmt Souk) and several private clinics of excellent care quality.
Money and currency exchange
The local currency is the Tunisian dinar (TND), a non-convertible currency: it cannot be bought or sold outside Tunisia. You therefore need to change money on arrival and, ideally, change it back before you leave (which is only possible if you exchanged officially on arrival, with the corresponding receipt).
- Indicative rate: 1 € ≈ 3.37 TND (market-dependent).
- Exchange: counters at the airport (open for arriving flights), banks and bureaux de change in town. Rates are very similar everywhere — we can also do it for you on request.
- ATMs available at the airport and in the main towns.
- Bank cards accepted almost everywhere. Keep some cash on hand for small shops, taxis and souks. Your full stay bill can be settled however you prefer: cash, card or PayPal.
Djerba remains very affordable: a meal at a local restaurant costs 5 to 12 € per person.
Connectivity: internet and SIM cards
Mobile coverage is solid across the island. Three operators sell prepaid SIM cards at the airport and in their stores:
- Ooredoo — tourist data bundles from around 3 € for several GB.
- Tunisie Telecom — comparable pricing, solid coverage.
- Orange — Holiday tourist bundle around 4.50 € for 7 GB.
A tip from Ahmed Redissi, our founder: “Take a SIM card with data at the airport. Orange has the best coverage on the Ethic Village Djerba grounds.”
In our four villas, free, unlimited Wi-Fi is included, running on two 5G boxes from two different operators — if one network drops, the other takes over. Enough for remote working, video calls and family streaming.
Public holidays and closures to plan for
The two major religious celebrations — Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha — lead to the closure of many shops for 1 to 3 days. Dates shift each year with the lunar calendar. During the month of Ramadan, many restaurants close during the day and come alive in the evening at iftar; souks stay open with shifted hours. At Ethic Village Djerba our services run as usual and our team will point you towards the right addresses. See also our practical guide to family holidays in Djerba.
A stay designed around your values
Ethic Village Djerba is a private family residence, halal-friendly, in Tezdaine — a sought-after neighbourhood of Midoun (meaning “the palm trees” in Berber). Each of our four villas has a private pool with no overlooking neighbours. The residence is strictly alcohol-free — house rules, no exceptions. It is not a marketing label: it is a concrete commitment, inherited from our values, so that you can enjoy Djerba with complete peace of mind. Unmarried couples and mixed groups are not accepted.
For more, see our halal-friendly stay in Djerba page. And if you have any question before arrival, our team will be glad to help via the contact page.
Safe travels, and see you very soon in Djerba, insha’Allah.
